The Big Coaching Project started in March 2006 and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

Who is it for?

• Volunteer managers —  defined as anyone who has a responsibility for volunteers
• Volunteering infrastructure organisations — defined as any organisation who supports volunteer involving organisations.

North West Network (NWN) also recognises individuals who’s role is to support volunteer managers across two or more branches/ projects within one organisation, as having an volunteering infrastructure role.

What are we aiming to achieve?
The project aims to enable volunteer involving organisations in the North West of England to develop thriving and sustainable volunteer programmes through:

• Improving their skills, confidence and attitudes
• Increasing their ability to deliver services effectively and sustain service provision
  
• Reducing ‘fire fighting’
• Improving individuals and organisations ability to adapt to internal/external change
• Increasing their access to resources and expertise for organisations
• Improving mechanisms for exchange of best practice

How are we achieving this?
The project will provide individual and organisational development through three main activities:

1. Coaching for volunteer managers
2. Training in SAMi Volunteer Management for volunteering infrastructure organisations
3. Training in outcomes focused organisational planning for voluntary sector organisations

Where and when will we run it?
The Big Coaching Project will work with voluntary sector organisations across the North West of England from March 2006 to March 2009. This will be delivered in five rounds, rolled out sub regionally.  Each round will last a maximum of six months.

Partnerships
NWN believe that a partnership approach is the most effective way to deliver the Big Coaching Project to support, compliment and add value to what is already available to volunteer involving organisations at local, regional, sub-regional and national level
