The White Paper, Communities in Control; Real people, real power, is about passing power into the hands of local communities. It sets out a range of policies to achieve this, building on work still in progress from the 2006 White Paper, Strong and Prosperous Communities. The focus of this first consultation paper in the series is on certain tools for enabling local people to participate in decisions which affect their day to day lives; to hold to account those who exercise power in their locality; and to facilitate the work of those democratically elected to represent their communities.
The deadline for responses to this consultation is 30 October 2008.
