Who We Are

North West Network services are delivered through three strategically interlinked operational teams, European, Volunteer Management and Black and Minority Ethnic Network, all supported by the Directorate.

Directorate

Emile Pinel, Chief Executive
Emile Pinel is currently Chief Executive of North West Network (NWN). Prior to this appointment, Emile worked on regeneration projects in Moss Side and Hulme, Manchester. In addition to his responsibility for the strategic management of NWN which includes a successful European Structural Fundsi support service to the voluntary sector and a growing programme of capacity building for volunteer managers; Emile was instrumental in developing, the region's black and minority ethnic voluntary sector network. Emile has held various management committee positions, including Progress Trust, Voluntary Action Manchester, and Third Sectori European Network.

Jane Stanistreet, Operations Manager
Jane Stanistreet is the Operations Manager for North West Network. This role involves direct responsibility for the internal management of the company. This includes the management of the organisation’s good governance, all personnel issues, information technology, accommodation and related issues as well as responsibility for the company’s literature and communication tools including the prestigious newsletter. Jane has worked for North West Network for over 12 years and is currently studying for her CIPD. Jane also shares the role of Company Secretary.

European Team

John Hacking, Senior European Officer
John joined the North West Network team in September 2004. As Senior European Funding Officer, John is responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of ESFi and ERDFi support services for the voluntary and community sector within the North West region. John has an established background in regeneration work, having been involved with a variety of social and economic projects throughout the 1980s. In 1989, he was one of the founders of Firmstart which is still a social enterprise in Manchester providing workspace to local businesses. John is involved with the Chorlton Arts Festival as a fundraiser, he is the chair of Chorlton Health Forum which helps to involve residents in health structures and enjoys his position as a governor at a local primary school.

Angeliki Stogia, European Officer
Angeliki initially joined North West Network in February 2004 as a volunteer before formally joining the European Team in May 2004. Angeliki has a BSc Hons in European Studies and Languages and an MLitt in Applied European Studies. She has recently successfully completed a postgraduate certificate in the management of Public Service Partnerships. Angeliki provides training, advice and guidance to support voluntary and community sector organisations across the region which are seeking access to European funding. Angeliki has a keen interest in contemporary European issues and is the Secretary of the European Information Association. Angeliki speaks English, Greek, French and Italian.

Volunteer Management Team

Carol Savage, Project Co-ordinator
Carol has thirteen years experience of the voluntary sector both as an employee and as a volunteer, including four years as a volunteer bureau manager. For the past four years Carol has been employed by North West Network and has managed the following Projects: Millennium Volunteers/Volunteer Development Agency Project, the SAMi Volunteer Management Project and the development of volunteering placement organisations for CSV Media North's Young Volunteer Challenge. Carol holds a Certificate in Coaching through the Centre for Coaching and has undertaken management training with the Chartered Management Institute.Carol is also a qualified First Aider at Work.

Dan Farley, Project Officer
Dan has six years experience of the voluntary sector, including six months as a BTCV volunteer, two years managing volunteers at BTCV Staffordshire and two and over three years working for North West Network supporting and developing volunteer involving organisations. Projects undertaken include Millennium Volunteers/Volunteer Development Agency Project, the SAM Volunteer Management Project and developing volunteering placement organisations for CSV Media North's Young Volunteer Challenge. Dan holds a Certificate in Coaching through the Centre for Coaching and has completed an Open College Network accredited course in Advising Voluntary and Community Groups on Funding.

BME Regional Network (One North West)

Paul Harris, Project Director for One North West
Paul joined North West Network in July 2006 as Project Director for One North West, and in October 2006 he was elected as a Member of the Board of Trustees at Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisations (GMCVO). Paul is a specialist in facilitating multi-agency partnership working; prior to this appointment his experience was geared toward improving accessibility of mainstream services for asylum seekers and refugees. He achieved this through a variety of posts, working first for Government (local and Regional) and then in the Voluntary Community Faith Sector. Between December 2004 and July 2006, Paul was the strategic lead officer on asylum in Oldham (working for Oldham District Citizens Advice Bureau on behalf of the Local Strategic Partnership), tasked with supporting partners from local authorities, private sector and the voluntary community faith sector to map gaps in service delivery and find solutions. Prior to this Paul worked for Norfolk Social Services as a hub for co-ordinating asylum services and then more recently for the East of England Regional Assembly Consortium for Asylum and Refugee Integration supporting 54 local authorities and voluntary sector partners across 6 counties to adapt to the changing face of asylum.

The Board of Trustees

North West Network has a democratically elected Board of Trustees comprising of members from a broad spectrum of organisations from across the North West region. The very diversification of our Board members allows fresh perspectives into the way that North West Network is governed and allows for greater inclusivity in the way that our mission is fulfilled and services delivered.

Ann Marie Wrigley, Chair
Although Ann Marie has been a Director of many companies over the years
this is the first time she has been a Trustee of a Charity. Ann Marie
works for New Era Enterprises (E. Lancs.) Ltd. a social enterprise. She
is a member of the board of Co-operatives NW – the North West
Co-operative and Mutual Council – and of Selnet – the Social Enterprise
Network for Lancashire and, of course, of New Era. She is currently
studying for a Masters degree in the School of Business and Law at
Liverpool John Moores University - an MA in Social Enterprise
Management.

Zaka M Sheikh, Trustee
Zaka Mahmood Sheikh is the Chairman of First Asian Support Trust (FAST) Limited. He has been a member of the Manchester Learning and Skills Partnership (LSP) for 5 years. He is also an executive member of the Community Network for Manchester (CN4M), Progress Trust, NCVO, Voluntary Sector North West (VSNW), City Pride Partnership, Urban Forum and Focus BME Groups. He is also active in local, sub-regional, regional and international voluntary sector events. He regularly contributes to strategic conferences such as BTEG Conference, NWDAi conference, LSP conferences and European Multicultural Foundation events plus many more. His regular meetings with statutory organisations such as DWP, GONWi place him in positions that influence and contribute towards the needs of local communities, BME communities, unemployed and disabled people. His regular meetings with non-statutory organisations, community leaders, faith groups and local councillors including,Sir Richard Leese (leader) of Manchester City Council, Cllr Afzal Khan (Ex Lord Mayor of Manchester) and Cllr Naeem Ul Hassan – these meetings often advise on development issues with a particular emphasis on the community development issues surrounding BME groups and disabled people. His work with the head of regeneration and Primary Care Trusts has translated into working practice. Mr Sheikh started FAST in 1993, responding to the needs of parents who experienced difficulties in accessing major aspects of health and social care support services for people with seen and unseen disabilities including people from socially excluded communities. FAST has grown into a deliverer of high quality, professional services and have attained ISO 9001 and IIP standards.His focus still remains on the needs of the community.

Ann Bennett, Trustee
Ann Bennett is a solicitor with many years experience working in the voluntary sector. She is a trustee of an educational charity and is currently helping in the management of Coniston Hall student residence in Manchester which is a project of the Ashley Educational Trust. She is directly involved in organising student volunteer projects which help in the local community.
